Requirements of the Immigration Program for skilled workers
To qualify for the permanent (immigrant) worker class, you must meet the following requirements:
- hold at least one diploma of a Secondary School Diploma or a Diploma of Vocational Studies (must correspond to an equivalent level in the Québec education system)
- must have training and occupational skills that will facilitate your entry into the job market
- have adequate knowledge of French. Knowledge of English is also an asset in entering the Quebec labour market.
Selection factors
Once you have considered moving to Canada for a permanent job, you must find out if you meet certain employability factors. The following factors are taken into account when assessing eligibility for the skilled worker immigration program:
- education level and area of training
- work experience; where and how long you have worked
- age
- knowledge of French and English
- your stays in Québec and family relationship with Canadian citizen or a permanent Québec resident
- characteristics regarding your accompanying spouse
- your financial capacity (you must confirm that you can provide for your needs and your family’s needs for at least the first three months following your arrival)
Other factors that will be taken into account when your application is assessed are:
- having a valid employment offer
- the number of children under the age of 22 who will be accompanying you to Québec
- your adaptability (preparation of your immigration project) which will be assessed based on the steps that you have undertaken to facilitate your socioeconomic integration and your personal qualities with regard to your work activities.
